The Campaign To End Violence Against Women

July 21, 2009

WomenThrive.org

I know that keeping women and girls around the world free from fear and harm is as important to you as it is to me.

That’s why I’m inviting you to use your power as an American citizen to empower the millions of women around the world who suffer from violence and abuse.

I recently contacted my Congressperson asking her/him to support the International Violence Against Women Act (IVAWA).

I urge you to do the same by visiting www.WomenThrive.org/IVAWA where you can send an email or fax to your Senator and Representative.

It would impact millions of women, empowering them with tools to escape abuse and poverty. Please add your voice by contacting your Congressperson!

Worldwide, over 1 billion people live in extreme poverty, struggling to survive on a less than $1 a day. In May 2008 Ritu Sharma, Women Thrive’s President and Co-founder, traveled to Nicaragua, one of the poorest countries in Latin America, to try to experience herself what life is like for women who live on $1 a day or less.

Violence against women is a major cause of world poverty, preventing women from going to school, earning an income, and lifting their families out of poverty.
